Plan Z...

After last weeks optimistic post, and great hopes and good feelings about February 17th, Wednesday evening came... which from now on will be known as the start of the epic cold/flu hybrid of 2013... I have been out of comission since Wednesday evening... and I am now faced with the uncertainty of what to do this upcoming Sunday. Often when I'm sick, once I finally have the energy to run again it is extremely frustrating and dissapointing because I've taken so many steps back in my strength and endurance. But do I really not want to do this run this weekend? I don't know... or do I try and switch to the 10 km? I do not know...

At this point in time I'm not too sure how I'm going to proceed or what I will be doing come Sunday morning, but first things first I need to just focus on getting myself better and getting back to work and a minimalist version of my daily routines...

Hope everyone else is in better health than I am... Oh also, so much for the plank a day challenge... flip side, my abs do look quite fabulous, its amazing what this cold/flu will do for a girls figure ;).

Holiday Goals out the Window!

Well, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! For the past two years I have gotten sick over the Christmas season, this year I was determined to not get sick on Christmas... so the eve of the 26th came and I was sick sleeping on the couch with Vicks and a towel wrapped around my throat... Awesome :(

Anyways, since I had been battling a cold for the past 2 - 3 weeks I decided that if my body truly wanted to be sick I was going to let it in hopes of kicking this terrible bug/sore throat/ cold whatever it was... So bring on the NyQuil, Cold FX, Vitamin C, Throat Losengers etc... I wanted to sleep and knock this thing out of my system. The cold combined with being away (I was in Seattle the weekend before Christmas and the weekend after) resulted in no running taking place for 7 + days! Which is crazy for me, but seriously needed (one night I slept 13 + hours!!!)

So, what did I learn from this Christmas season and holiday experience... all of my tips for fitting in the workouts didn't work. Short days, travel and the hustle and bustle of family and Christmas and needing copious amounts of sleep resulted in no time to run... But at the end of the day, thats okay. What is a week or two without running? My identity is not completely locked in to me running (just slightly) and taking a break does not make me 'not a runner'.

Now, back to work, back to routine and back to running. Tomorrow is going to be the first outdoor run of 2013 and I'm hoping for a good one. So, whatever it is you are up to this weekend, I hope you have a great time and if you see a girl who looks like she is dying running outside, that just may be me. :)

Welcome! Christmas Season and Fitness

While most people create resolutions around New Years, I'm getting a bit of a head start. With the holiday season in my grasp I have realized that I need to set some serious goals in order to stay true to myself and truly enjoy the Holiday Season.

Now how am I going to do this? Well hopefully starting this blog will help! (keep me accountable) Here's the thing, I don't do 'diets', instead I try to eat food which my body responds positively to and counter indulgences my being active year round. With the rain 24/7 this time of year, and the frigid cold seeping into my bones, running outside is not that appealing... insert Treadmill love! So hopefully, this week, my treadmill and I will be besties in the evening (realistic goal, 3 x's), and during the week I will be able to resist the sweets and treats going around the office.

Will I be successful, who knows, but the worst that can happen is I don't follow through, gain 5 lbs this Holiday Season and hit the pavement hard in the New Year.
